Todd Paoletti, Pivotal, with John Furrier and Dave Vellante at EMC World 2014 @thecube #emcworld In 2013, VMware and its parent company EMC created a new brainchild called Pivotal, designing it to institute a data analysis platform as a service (PaaS) that both companies could utilize. Today, Pivotal stands on its own as an innovator in open source Platform-as-a-Service technology. Recently at EMC World 2014, theCUBE hosts John Furrier and Dave Vellante had a conversation with Todd Paoletti, VP of Product Marketing at Pivotal, about some of the company’s current work and future plans. Pivotal currently focuses on a number of projects: Pivotal CF – Enterprise-ready PaaS, powered by Cloud Foundry, ideal for private cloud and integration with IaaS Pivotal One – Including Pivotal HD Service, RabbitMQ Service and MySQL Service Pivotal BIG DATA Suite – Storage and analysis of data, in-memory data processing, Hadoop and more Cloud Foundry – Pivotal’s open source PaaS project that powers many of its enterprise solutions . Pivotal continues to expand its Cloud Foundry project, gaining more industry support. The vision is to enable true hybrid cloud implementations where an application can be deployed on premise and also in the cloud without having to radically change. Paoletti explained that Pivotal’s partnership with IBM is crucial because of its commitment to open source development. IBM was one of the first members of the open source Cloud Foundry foundation, which took control of the foundry when Pivotal handed over governance. Finally, Paoletti talked about Pivotal’s BIG DATA Suite and how it has rolled together technology from both VMware and EMC to provide customers with a single offering that is priced based on power consumption per core.
