Unified Workspace bakes Dell portfolio into serviced, end-to-end cookie
How does a company with a large, almost unwieldy product portfolio win over modern enterprises hungry for simplicity? It can mix several products into single end-to-end solutions and service them to make light work for users.
That is what Dell EMC aims to do with its large inventory of infrastructure, services and software. For example, it just announced the Unified Workspace, which integrates Dell devices and services with VMware Inc. and Secureworks Inc. (Dell companies) technologies.
“You see all the pieces of Dell technologies coming together to create greater value for the customer,” said Alex Barretto (pictured, right), senior vice president of strategic planning and technology at Dell EMC.
Barretto and Doug Schmitt (pictured, left), president of of global services at Dell EMC, spoke with John Furrier (@furrier) and Lisa Martin (@LisaMartinTV), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the Dell Tech World event in Las Vegas. They discussed Dell’s latest announcements and how its leveraging its services portfolio to provide end-to-end solutions (see the full interview with transcript here). (* Disclosure below.)
Packing it up for higher value-add
Unified Workspace is a future-of-work offering that helps transforming businesses eliminate rote tasks and focus higher up the value chain. It helps businesses simplify end-user computing within companies and enable IT departments to work with ease and efficiency. It streamlines and simplifies traditionally high-touch processes like PC lifecycle management via the unified endpoint management of VMware Workspace ONE.
“Wherever you are as a customer, you’re able to access your specific information — whatever the device,” Barretto said. “So if you think about your whole experience — device-independent, as well as from a software standpoint — we can offer all in one,” he said.
Dell’s ProManage and ProSupport offerings also demonstrate how it’s pulling its portfolio into consumable solutions. “What you’re seeing is a convergence of deployment, support and managed service all really coming together,” Schmitt said.
ProSupport for IT teams provides end-to-end support of IT systems, as well as insights that may prevent system issues before they happen. ProManage services provide proactive, predictive maintenance and also suggestions for future improvement. “It’s not just about break/fix anymore,” Schmitt stated.
Unified, serviced solutions take low-value-add drudgery off the agendas of companies working to digitally transform and innovate. “These are all about not only providing better technology for their team members and their customers, but then leveraging their time then to spend on their transformation,” Schmitt concluded.
