Get networking out of the way for app development | #DockerCon

The modern tech business is all about networking infrastructure. For a leading company, the power to communicate effectively with its IT assets is vital. However, that same networking can be a wall to development process; how does a team develop for an environment that is always shifting and changing? Removing the networking concern is a top priority for any business that wants to be efficient and agile.
To shed some light on dealing with networking, John Furrier (@furrier) and Brian Gracely (@bgracely), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, went to the DockerCon 2016 convention in Seattle, Washington. There, they spent some time with Sunil Khandekar, founder and CEO of Nuage Networks (a Nokia venture).
Automating the network
“The network has to get out of the way to create developer efficiency; how do you make that happen?” Khandekar asked, opening the conversation. He explained how companies have dynamic environments, but there was a way for networking to tie those environments seamlessly together. A network-based automation platform allows any workload to come together for quick application deployment.
Khandekar spoke about how once a business has a number of use cases, they need a consistent platform to develop applications. They can do that by getting networking out of the way and creating automation. He described how Nuage’s system does that, even on remote systems.
“It was very much built with Cloud enablement in mind,” he said.
Security on a moving networking target
Khandekar talked about the importance of security in such systems. He mentioned how they must be able to allow for security, enforce policies and quarantine workloads. He explained that IT has been struggling with enforcing their security governance over workloads. It used to be a manual process, but now they can automate and deploy policy across all their concerns.
Taking a moment to talk about Nuage itself, Khandekar said the company is focusing on policy-based automation for the data center and related branches. He mentioned how Nokia allows them to address and be involved with very large service provider projects. While Nuage itself looks to R&D and innovation, Nokia provides them with great reach.
