Radical eco-system growth for Docker open platform | #DockerCon
by Betsy Amy-Vogt | Jun 27, 2015
Jeff Frick, GM of theCUBE, and Stu Miniman, senior analyst at Wikibon, discussed the first day of the 2015 DockerCon gathering in San Francisco. Discussion points include the phenomenal growth of Docker and how the open platform is removing barriers to productivity and becoming the new epicenter of change.
“Everyone is hopping on Docker”
Docker is already seen as the new, hot skill for developers. In the past year, job openings that mention Docker have jumped from 2,500 to 43,000. Attendees at DockerCon include big names, such as Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, EMC and HP, and the excitement level is high.
Frick recounted how Day One speaker Patrick Chanezon, Docker, Inc.’s technical staff member, compares the current atmosphere at Docker and with the enterprise software development space to the start of Netscape Communications when browsers were new technology.
Stats for Docker’s growth include:
460 contributors to 1,300 in the last year – 183 percent growth
40,000 projects on GitHub – 500 percent growth
5 million boot to Docker downloads – over 1,000 percent growth
Half a billion containers downloaded
