How is Dell approaching emerging technologies? | #DellEMCWorld

In a time when technology is constantly changing and advancing, how does a company stay ahead? There’s more data than can be managed, and the growth isn’t slowing down, so how can companies put that data to the best use?
CJ Desai, president of the Emerging Technologies Division at Dell Technologies Inc., answered these and other important questions regarding the “new” Dell. Desai talked with Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Stu Miniman (@stu), co-hosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the Dell EMC World event about the future of Dell’s emerging technologies.
Keeping up with the times
With the Dell EMC merger, customers are able to use new technology and software on the Dell/EMC platform, according to Desai. As time passes, more data comes streaming in and “unstructured data growth doesn’t seem to be slowing down,” said Desai.
To handle all that data, more customers are asking for all-flash configurations. Some might even say that 2016 is the year of flash and Dell has answered the call: Dell EMC recently announced its new product, Isilon Nitro (scale-out NAS storage), which has an all-flash configuration.
Scaling up
Many of Dell EMC’s previous customers were in the financial services industry, according to Desai. They demanded in-depth analytics and scalability. Now Dell has a platform that provides the analytics their customers need and more.
Dell EMC can also create configurations that are “ready to be consumed immediately,” said Desai. There’s no longer a need to use multiple vendors and sources to create an effective infrastructure, he explained. Customers can dive right into creating an architecture that best suits their needs and comes together easily, according to Desai.
Looking ahead
Dell EMC also has Virtustream (an enterprise-class cloud software and service provider) for companies that are moving away from traditional data centers and toward more software-defined storage and applications. Its Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS) product can even be used a possible tape replacement for enterprises looking for such a solution, according to Desai.

The emerging technologies department of Dell EMC is looking for the best ways to handle the latest technology issues while delivering a competitive cost, Desai stated. Its primary goal is helping companies utilize their data more effectively while “making the business scalable,” said Desai.
