Dell pivots to as-a-service for everything as technology becomes more complex
BY BETSY AMY-VOGT
Dell Technologies is undergoing metamorphosis once again. Never one to shy away from change, the company is meeting digital disruption head on as it shifts to offer as-a-service across its entire portfolio.
“Customers are looking for a very simple way to consume our set of services, and we’re doing that,” said Alex Barretto (pictured, right), vice president of Dell Technology Services at Dell Technologies Inc.
“The lines between … support, consulting, managed services, all of that is being blurred,” stated Doug Schmitt (pictured, left), president of Dell Technology Services. “That could be everything from PC as a service, storage as a service, right into hybrid cloud.”
Schmitt and Barretto spoke with Lisa Martin, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the Dell Technologies World Digital Experience event. They discussed how Dell is changing to an as-a-service model, keeping the customer experience simple as the technology becomes more complex. (* Disclosure below.)
Flexibility and simplicity across the board
The technology industry is undergoing massive change, as 5G, the edge, cloud and as-a-service disrupt the business model. Dell is preparing for this future in three ways. And all of them involve putting customer experience front and center.
The first is the simplification of its as-a-service offerings, announced today as Project Apex. Second is preparing for the telco transformation that’s coming as 5G rolls out. “We’re fully embracing that so that we can deliver the set of services in a differentiated way leveraging the power of 5G,” Barretto stated.
This includes Dell’s edge strategy, which has a three-pronged approach to help clients manage an increasing number of external devices.
Third is cloud services. Dell has an existing hybrid cloud solution, on top of which the company is building out a set of cloud services. This fulfills the customer’s wishes by enabling them to consume the company’s solutions in a very simple and easy way, Barretto explained.
“Our customers are really looking for an outcome; they’re looking for flexibility and for things to be simple. We’re helping them achieve that,” Schmitt stated. “Dell Technologies is in an ideal position to pull all this together. We have a clear vision with a world-class team who are willing to help our customers through their transformation and deliver the outcomes they’re looking for.”
