Dell leverages its legacy of technology experience in cloud consulting
Roadblocks to enterprise cloud migration typically come by way of inadequate tech or ineffectual strategy. With its recent pivot to information technology support partner, Dell Technology Inc. aims to combine its history of infrastructure tools with the strengths of new partners and resources to address application transformation within the context of information technology transformation.
“We have a unique opportunity to bring the technologies, whether it be hardware or software solutions, across Dell Technologies to help them through that,” said Charlie Haney (pictured), senior vice president of consulting services, cloud and infrastructure transformation at Dell Technologies.
Haney spoke with Dave Vellante (@dvellante), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, and guest host John Troyer (@jtroyer), chief reckoner at TechReckoning, at the Dell Technologies World event in Las Vegas. They discussed Dell’s approach to digital transformation and how the company is helping customers work through cloud challenges. (* Disclosure below.)
Helping customers build
Dell focuses its customer consulting support around the ‘four transformation pillars’ of digital, IT, workforce and security, providing both the tools and training businesses need to build cloud processes. “When we talk digital transformation, we’re talking about helping customers understand [how] to … build a cloud-native application … switch processes to a DevOps agile process … [and] leverage Dell technology platform[s],” Haney said.
The company addresses a range of hybrid needs and assists customers in the total overhaul of business processes by providing support in workforce transformations and collaboration improvement tools. “It’s hard to do digital transformation without having the right infrastructure underneath it. … When we talk … [about] IT transformation, we talk about … application model and helping transform that, infrastructure transformation, as well as people and process transformation,” Haney said.
Working with a wide variety of clients seeking direction in the virtual space, Dell develops a unique approach to each transformation. “Oftentimes the customer expects us to partner, expects us to work and leverage the capabilities,” Haney stated.
With so many businesses discovering cloud possibilities, Haney is excited to see where Dell can expand its support. “I think it’s important for Dell Technologies to have a set of consulting capabilities [to] help customers through that transformation journey while consuming our technology,” he concluded.
