The mobile explosion is empowering enterprises to boost employee productivity and drive down operational costs, but it is also introducing new security risks that IT departments are struggling to address. Citrix hopes to ease the burden on administrators with Worx App Gallery, an enterprise hardened app store that is now available with its XenMobile device management platform. The marketplace features over 100 production-ready applications from the company and its partners, including Adobe, Antenna, Appcelerator, Box, Catch, Concur, Expensify, HP, Good Reader and Xora.
Worx was first announced at this year’s Synergy conference in Los Angeles. Gallery, the centerpiece of the platform, has enjoyed steady growth and an increasing app pipeline that Citrix says qualify it as the “fastest growing enterprise mobile app ecosystem” on the market. The company is hoping to attract software vendors (ISVs), system integrators and technology partners to accelerate this momentum.
From a channel perspective, Gallery presents partners with an opportunity to reach out to more than Citrix 260,000 customers and 10,000 resellers. On the customer side, the store offers IT organizations a means to simplify app deployment, a costly process that involves licensing agreements, security validation and other time-consuming tasks.
Enterprises and SMBs are both warming up BYOD, and for good reason. According to a recent study published by Citrix GoToMeeting, one fifth of the small businesses that have embraced personal devices recorded productivity gains of over 30 percent. The study also revealed that only 19 percent of all U.S. business owners have implemented such policies, compared with 25 percent in Canada and 34 percent in the UK and Germany.
Citrix’s BYOD strategy is not limited to smartphones and tablets. Chris Fleck, the company’s Vice President of Mobility Solutions, told SiliconANGLE that he expects wearable tech would gain traction in the enterprise market over the next few years.
