Presence on Cisco Global Price List could propel Veeam in 2018
Among the many announcements from Veeam Software Inc. in 2017 was the news that it would be added to Cisco System Inc.’s Global Price List by the end of the year. The addition allowed networking hardware provider Cisco and its resellers to offer Veeam’s data backup and recovery solutions, a move that continues a partnership that has grown closer over the past two years.
The deal makes sense for Cisco, because it gives the company an opportunity to provide virtualization support as customers increasingly appear more inclined to migrate toward hybrid platforms. Veeam executives believe that the addition of the company to Cisco’s list of reseller offerings will open new channels for dialogue with those customers.
“This is the first show that we’ve had where we’re talking about availability with Cisco as a joint partner on their Global Price List,” said Michael Cade (pictured), global technologist with Veeam. “Being on that price list is really going to help us get into some of those accounts from our point of view.”
Cade visited the set of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the Cisco Live event in Barcelona, Spain, and spoke with co-hosts John Furrier (@furrier) and Stu Miniman (@stu). They discussed storage integration solutions between Cisco and Veeam and the current climate surrounding European compliance with data privacy. (* Disclosure below.)
Storage integration opportunities
The price list partnership between Cisco and Veeam will likely extend storage integration opportunities between the two firms. Veeam can complement Cisco Unified Computing System solutions through storage-agnostic architecture, which lets network administrators select any pre-validated configuration.
“We can take an efficient snapshot of virtual machines and push those onto a Cisco [product],” Cade explained. “That modular, scalable server for both compute and high-density storage really gives us the best of both worlds.”
In addition to the price list opportunity and storage integration, Veeam is also focused on European regulations governing data privacy, known as General Data Protection Regulation. Veeam, a Switzerland-based company with many European customers, recently shared its own learning regarding the compliance process in a blog post.
“There’s not a day that goes by when I’m not speaking with someone about GDPR,” Cade said. “We’ve got features in our toolset that allow us to spin up data in an isolated network … and run compliance checks against it.”
