(08:35) --- --- Bruce Pon talks with Jeff Frick at the Block Chain Conference in San Francisco Want to start your own blockchain in 60 seconds or less? | #BlockChain The non-financial uses for blockchain protocol originated by Bitcoin are cropping up all over, and the race is on to be the database of choice. Ascribe, one of the first non-financial use cases, leveraged blockchain to help artists and creators keep track of intellectual property. Bruce Pon, founder and CEO at ascribe GmbH, has decided to pick up the ball and run with it with the launch of BigChainDB, a scalable blockchain database. “We play well with everyone,” Pon told host Jeff Frick, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the recent Block Chain Conference in San Francisco, referring to the database’s broad compatibility. He added that the blockchain’s reputation as somewhat onerous is justified, but that BigChainDB has has found ways to make it accessible, such as the use of distributed databases. “We actually started with this concept of using distributed databases and then building on top of that blockchain characteristics,” he explained. Blockchain grows tentacles Pon is enthusiastic about blockchain’s prospects as a game changer and sees it spreading out all over the map. “Blockchain is going to affect the world in a way that the Internet has affected the world,” he said. He predicted implementation in areas far flung from its financial origins. “Blockchain is going to insinuate itself in all facets of society,” he told Frick. He believes BigChainDB’s ease of use will draw in many new users, stating, “Our goal is to make it so that people can have a BigChainDB instance running in less than one minute.” Watch the full interview below, and be sure to check out more of SiliconANGLE and theCUBE’s coverage of The Block Chain Conference. https://siliconangle.com/2016/02/16/want-to-start-your-own-block-chain-in-60-seconds-or-less-blockchain/ @SiliconANGLE theCUBE
