Can ‘community’ break down the complexity of Big Data? | #BigDataSV
by Betsy Amy-Vogt | Mar 30, 2016
Community open-source projects are about democratization of not just data, but also analytics. The key is to understand it’s not data driven; it’s analytics driven. The next step: Break down the complexity and make it easier for data scientists to create models and publish findings as consumable information.
Martin Hall, director of marketing and business development, Big Data solutions at Intel, sees simplification as the most important issue facing Big Data as the industry matures.
Hall joined theCUBE cohosts John Furrier (@furrier), cofounder and CEO of SiliconANGLE Media, and George Gilbert (@ggilbert41), Wikibon Big Data and analytics analyst, at the Fairmont San Jose in San Jose, California, where BigDataSV 2016 is celebrating #BigDataWeek and discussing Big Data news and events from the #StrataHadoop conference.
Coming from an entrepreneurial background, Hall always thought of Intel as a Silicon, but now that he is on the inside, he realizes that Intel is an innovator and still an entrepreneurial company.
The importance of open source and collaboration
Hall discussed the importance of open source and fostering collaboration between individual vendors.
“Open source is about facilitating innovation and cutting across boundaries; about breaking down silos, and aggregating technologies … ” he said. And that’s what Intel’s Trusted Analytics Platform is all about — a way for both existing community members and newcomers to surmount the complexity issues inherent in Big Data.
