Enabling ‘Excel people’ to work with Big Data
by Marlene Den Bleyker | Mar 29, 2016
Back in 2013, at BigDataNYC, Paxata, Inc. announced the launch of the company on theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, and since then the company, headquartered in Redwood City, California, has expanded its funding, employees, customers and global reach.
Nenshad Bardoliwalla, cofounder and chief product officer of Paxata, joined Jeff Frick (@jefffrick) and George Gilbert (@ggilbert41), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, to discuss the reasons for his company’s growth. The BigDataSV 2016 event is being held in San Jose, California, where theCUBE is celebrating #BigDataWeek, including news and events from the #StrataHadoop conference.
Self-serve Big Data
Paxata says it’s the enterprise-class standard in self-service data preparation and analytic software, and the company sees its product as being the third leg of the stool. “Being able to empower somebody to turn raw data that landed in a system like Hadoop and turn it into information on the fly so they could turn it into analytics is the next major wave,” according to Bardoliwalla.
The company vision is Big Data tech juxtaposed to a point-and-click environment. Bardoliwalla noted that the goal is to expand the market of access. He said that if the end user knows how to create pivot tables and use VLOOKUP in Excel, they can easily use the product.
Point and click
The company has found success across industries, specifically the financial services industry, where the product helps companies avoid regulatory violations. Bardoliwalla pointed to interactive speed and point-and-click capabilities to help these organizations find needles in a haystack.
“Our vision is to create a horizontal information platform for the enterprise; the goal is to be the defacto, next-generation solution across industry sectors,” Bardoliwalla said.
