Rethinking the cloud platform with an integrated, turnkey solution | #BigDataNYC

As more companies move to cloud computing, they turn to Platform as a Service (PaaS) solutions, which allow them to focus on data management rather than having to worry about infrastructure management. Companies such as iguaz.io are providing a service-driven approach to enterprise data management, redesigning the entire data stack to accelerate performance and bridge the enterprise skill gap.
Yaron Haviv, founder and CTO at iguaz.io, joined Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Peter Burris (@plburris), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during BigDataNYC 2016, held at the Mercantile Annex in New York, NY, to talk about iguaz.io’s newly released Enterprise Data Cloud platform, which features a secure data PaaS deployed either on-premises or in hybrid cloud architectures, with self-service portals and APIs for developers and operators. They also discussed how iguaz.io is making this service faster and cheaper for its clients, as well as the interesting origin of the iguaz.io name.
100x faster, 10x less expensive
Vellante asked Haviv about the new cloud platform and what type of thinking brought about this innovation.
“We decided the existing stack wasn’t working … so we rearchitectured the entire stack, getting [speeds] 100x faster [than before],” said Haviv. Additionally, the platform drives costs down 10x lower for on-prem and hybrid cloud deployments, he stated.
This extreme performance is brought about by eliminating redundant operations in the data pipeline, bypassing operating system bottlenecks and maximizing parallel operations by leveraging advanced kernel features.
Burris asked about how the data is handled and if it is compacted, reducing its size?
“I’m not a fan of traditional storage. … They compress and dupe, and in order to find the data, I have to decompress. … I’d rather do that at the database level,” said Haviv.
Client transparency
Haviv discussed what iguaz.io is providing to its clients. “We’re [providing] Platform as a Service, deployed as [an] appliance, or we will sell you the reference architecture; a high-density approach. … We can increase performance and lower the cost,” explained Haviv. He went on to say, “We want it to be very transparent to clients; clients like this notion of an integrated, turnkey solution.”
Haviv explained origin of iguaz.io’s name. Iguazu Falls is on the border of Brazil and Argentina, and it’s made up of many streams that come together. Much like the falls must channel vast amounts of water, iguaz.io channels vast amount of data every single day for its clients, according to Haviv.
