The advantages of a ‘connected data platform strategy’ | #BigDataNYC
by Timothy Walden | Sep 27, 2016
As the digital revolution continues to change how we see technology, more companies must reevaluate how they approach data. Where should it be stored and how will it change their infrastructure?
Matt Morgan, VP of Product and Alliance Marketing at Hortonworks Inc., and Wei Wang, senior director of Product Marketing at Hortonworks, answered these and other important questions regarding data. The duo talked with Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and George Gilbert (@ggilbert41), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the BigDataNYC 2016 conference about Hortonworks and how it utilizes data.
The cloud and data centers
Companies are looking for new ways to manage data, the most popular of which is moving to the cloud. Cloud usage allows a huge amount of storage space and can handle multiple workloads at once. Hortonworks utilizes a “connected data platform strateg,” that combines the cloud and data centers, according to Morgan.
By combining on-premise data centers and the cloud, customers are given more optionality and flexibility, he explained. The added value this strategy brings has been essential for Hortonworks and puts it one step closer to a “true data architecture,” said Morgan.
Data architecture
Creating an efficient data architecture means bringing the various components of technology together “on premise and in the cloud,” said Morgan. Hortonworks believes that combining commute activity and storage will yield a high value for the company and for its customers.
With a strong architecture and infrastructure data can be moved freely and across a wider variety of platforms, according to Wang.
True value
Customers and companies alike want data that will benefit them in “a shorter time frame,” said Wang. Hortonworks has created a data plane that allows them to utilize all their data assets in an efficient and effective manner while delivering high value, she explained.
Customer value is important to Hortonworks, and bringing innovation to customers faster while “tying it to governance and security” will continue to be its focus, Morgan said.
