Exploring the ‘new alphabet’ of the IT ecosystem | #BigDataNYC
by Heather Johnson | Sep 29, 2015
As we move into 2016, not only does the technology conversation need to change, but it must adopt a new alphabet, according to Abhi Mehta, CEO of Tresata, Inc., which provides a software platform for real-time customer intelligence management.
“The ABCD of our ecosystem would be: analytics, Big Data, cloud and decision sciences,” Mehta explained to Dave Vallante and John Furrier, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, at BigDataNYC 2015 during Strata + Hadoop World. “This technological revolution is enabling an automation system that can deliver decision systems at scale.”
Where should an organization invest?
According to Vellante, “organizations have to be focused on capturing the data and analyzing it in real time to effect business outcome. The other piece is domain expertise and decision science to continuously improve the ability to compete, differentiate and add value. Where should an organization invest?”
“We have yet to meet a CEO in healthcare, banking or retail who does not believe that the next frontier is in complex decision sciences,” Mehta responded. “A large bank has 300,000 employees globally. There is no way that you can compete in a capital, resource-efficient manner unless you have automated the data pipeline.”
Mehta also acknowledged that technology’s infrastructure could use refinement. “The obsession with growth has caused turmoil in the ecosystem,” he said. “It’s almost regressive to believe that in six years of covering a business revolution, the reason for the confusion is going from raw data to actionable intelligence.”
