Syncsort takes more steps to drain the data swamp
If the definition of a swamp is low, uncultivated ground saturated with water, then a data swamp is found in enterprise architectures that are inundated with too much information to handle. The push is on not just to manage the data-saturated enterprise, but to get information flowing in ways that will add business value across the organization.
“Data lakes are turning into data swamps. We are enabling our customers to access and integrate datasets in a trusted manner,” said Tendü Yogurtçu (pictured), chief technology officer at Syncsort Inc.
Yogurtçu paid a visit to theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile livestreaming studio, and spoke with co-hosts John Furrier (@furrier) and James Kobielus (@jameskobielus) at the BigData NYC event in New York City. They discussed Syncsort’s recent acquisitions and announcements, along with plans for future product news. (* Disclosure below.)
Recent acquisitions bolster portfolio
To help its customers deal with the problems of the data swamp, Syncsort has been quite active in recent months, rolling out a series of acquisitions and product releases. Late last year the company acquired Trillium Software, a data quality tools provider, and more recently added Metron Technology to strengthen its capacity management portfolio.
Last month, Syncsort announced the release of Trillium Quality for Big Data, which provides customers with a 360-degree view of enterprise data in Hadoop clusters. That news was almost immediately followed by Ironstream Transaction Tracing, an insight tool for web-based and mobile transactions on mainframes.
“Our vision is to bring world leader-grade enterprise data quality into big data environments,” Yogurtçu said.
The company’s stream of announcements this year may not be finished either. Syncsort is interested in providing enterprises with the ability to execute business rules between source and the data lake, and a release on this will apparently come soon.
“Our next upcoming release at the end of the year is targeting very flexible deployment,” Yogurtçu said.
