And the impact of Brexit | #AWSSummit by Brittany Greaner | Jul 13, 2016 It’s no secret how incredible the AWS story is. It has managed to transform from a company that some viewed as a simple tool to a $10-billion, standalone company worth nearly as much as Oracle. “It’s unbelievable,” said David Richards, CEO of WANdisco, plc. “Amazon is the best investor-relations story ever.” Especially in regards to storage, the company was able to determine a gap in the marketplace and innovate there, while the rest of the industry remained oblivious to the potential and are now struggling to catch up. Richards spoke to John Furrier (@furrier) and Lisa Martin (@Luccazara), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the AWS Summit 2016 taking place at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California. WANdisco: ‘Kings of moving data around’ As for WANdisco’s relationship with AWS — that it is one of the featured products on Amazon’s front page speaks to how tightly knit they are. Similar to AWS, WANdisco also found an underserved area and has worked to become the masters of it. “We want to be the kings of moving data around,” said Richards. Most enterprises don’t have all of their data in one place, which can make efforts such as analytics more difficult. And that’s where WANdisco comes in. “We enable customers to move massive transactional data into cloud while it’s still moving,” said Richards. The impact of Brexit Brexit has also made quite a stir in not only politics, but also business. Despite living in the US for 19 years, Richards has been keeping up to date with what’s going on in the UK as well. In fact, WANdisco has a branch in his hometown of Sheffield that he said will largely be unaffected by the vote, besides making vacations to the US and Europe more costly. But the employees remain relatively well-paid and are working on exciting things, he said. However, the UK as a whole is likely to experience some hardships, including a possible housing market crash as a result of Brexit, Richards added. #AWSSummit #theCUBE
