Zadara and AWS partner to meet increasing data storage needs | #reInvent
As an Amazon Web Services LLC partner, Zadara Storage Inc. provides, within Amazon’s public cloud, a separate storage cloud. This storage cloud gives customers the complete configuration flexibility to build a custom storage environment, attached to their AWS compute environment. Online, a Zadara Storage customer builds a Virtual Private Storage Array. These VPSAs have all the configuration flexibility that the cloud provides, as well as pricing flexibility; customers pay for the storage on an hourly basis, just like any other cloud resource.
Nelson Nahum, CEO at Zadara Storage, joined John Furrier (@furrier), cohost of theCUBE*, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during AWS re:Invent, held in Las Vegas, NV. They discussed how storage is inherently tied to data and about the partnership Zadara has with AWS.
Storage will be strong as long as data is important
The conversation began with thoughts around storage and how it has been perceived in the past as a “less than exciting” part of digital technology — but that has definitely changed, Nahum said. Storage needs are only going up, as data is brought in more and more, for example, by devices on the Internet of Things.
To meet these increasing data needs, Zadara has cross-connected to Google Cloud and Azure, as well as AWS. Additionally, it has also formed a digital alliance with Intel. “They’re providing servers and flash; we will provide flash as a service, then storage as a service hard drives,” said Nahum.
This SaaS model removes the usual hassles of provisioning storage, of companies trying to identify the scale points for any peak loads, as well as trying to predict how much storage they’ll in the future. By allowing clients to pay for only what they use, as well as to scale and shrink storage as needed, customers don’t have to worry about storage; they can worry about their core businesses instead.
Strong AWS partnership
Regarding Zadara’s relationship with AWS, Nahum said his company started with Amazon in 2012, and it was the only storage company at the time. Zadara is now cross-connected to AWS so that any AWS client can use Zadara’s storage. Nahum emphasized what a great partner AWS is for Zadara and how the relationship is benefitting both companies.
Looking back at five years ago and where he thought Zadara would be today, he said, “Our main problem is, we can’t ship enough equipment fast enough!” said Nahum. The need for storage isn’t going away anytime soon.
