Why now? AWS speaks on Accenture team-up timing | #reinvent
by Heather Johnson | Oct 9, 2015
At Amazon re:Invent 2015, Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) and Accenture announced the new Accenture AWS Business Group, which will help clients move data to the cloud more quickly. The new business plans to invest significant resources to develop solutions for application migration and development, cloud-based enterprise applications, and analytics and Big Data solutions.
Terry Wise, vice president, Worldwide Partner Ecosystem for AWS, told Brian Gracely, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, that the two companies have worked together as partners for eight years. “With the demand from the enterprise, the time was right,” Wise said of the business group. “Accenture has been a great partner. It’s time to do it big.”
Jeff Radack, North America cloud lead for Accenture, said that Accenture customers have been asking for public cloud capabilities, which made it the right time for Accenture to form the new venture.
Putting enterprise applications into the cloud
Radack said the next step is to meet the customers’ needs. “We want to make sure we have the architects that can take the capabilities and services available and apply them to the customers’ needs,” he said. “We want to create that Platform as a Service. Everybody’s moved along with Infrastructure as a Service, now we’re looking at the stack and how to put the enterprise applications into the cloud.”
Wise said that the customer focus has shifted from innovative, new companies to agile established corporations, such as General Electric Co. and Capital One Financial.
“The enterprise was a big AWS customer from day one,” said Wise. “They started with tests and small apps. The pivot point happened about eight months ago, when they saw improvements in security. They knew it was cost efficient and would scale globally.
Conversation turned to innovation and agility. Now, enterprise companies are more committed to bringing their entire estate or large parts of the estate into the cloud to take advantage of this innovation.”
