Resource-sharing across public-sector boundaries helps defend cyber borders
Sharing resources has historically been a challenge among government agencies, each with its own separate reporting hierarchy and mission statements. In today’s cybersecurity driven environment, however, these agencies not only need to collaborate with each other, but also with the private sector to protect against cyber threats.
provided his thoughts on a new shared resource approach to cybersecurity.
“We’re breaking down those walls. We’re seeing that when it comes to cybersecurity, no one agency can defend an entire nation on its own. It has to be a collaborative solution; it has to be a team effort,” said John Eubank IV (pictured), director of program management at Enlighten IT Consulting Inc., a cyber-security consultant for the Department of Defense. “Navy, Army, Air Force, etc., have to work in partnership if we’re every going to defend our nation from cyber-threats.”
Eubank spoke with John Furrier (@furrier) and John Walls (@JohnWalls21), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile live streaming studio, during AWS Public Sector Summit in Washington D.C. He discussed how the sharing model is changing the way the US government operates, as well as the latest in technology trends. (* Disclosure below.)
Pooling knowledge to defend US cyber borders
This sharing of best practices and resources not only needs to occur among government agencies, but across the private sector and public sector as well, according to Eubank.
“Private industry acknowledges their need for government support and government collaboration. With data breaches like the Target breach and massive credit card breaches, these private industries cannot keep up with defending their own network. They need government support for defending very large networks,” Eubank said.
