The Feds fall in love with the cloud (finally)
Adoption of cloud computing technologies is exploding within the public sector, with cloud provisioning companies such as Four Points Technology LLC claiming a significant increase in federal demand. It seems as if the industry’s mission, led by giants including Amazon Web Services Inc., is succeeding, as newly cloud-cognizant government, non-profit and educational organizations go virtual.
“All of the missionary work, development work, technical and cultural changes that were happening before are now taking hold, and you’re really seeing cloud adoption explode in the federal space,” said Joel Lipkin (pictured), chief operating officer at Four Points Technology.
Speaking with John Furrier (@furrier), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, at the AWS public sector headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, Lipkin discussed the recent uptake in adoption of cloud within the public sector and how Four Points, an AWS partner, has shifted focus to adapt to new customer demands.
AWS and Four Points work to mutual benefit
Four Points has positioned itself as a major cloud provider to the U.S. federal government. “Where we found a sweet spot is doing account set up, provisioning, support, escalation [and] a lot of technical consulting,” Lipkin said.
Four Points’ early adoption of AWS has been beneficial to both companies, with AWS’ investment in bringing public services to cloud supported by Four Points’ goal to help the customer successfully complete the transition as quickly as possible and vice-versa, Lipkin explained.
Four Points’ recent success stories include a five-year, $500 million dollar award to provide the Department of Veterans Affairs with cloud computing resources. “Their requirement was to deliver two [authorized to operate] hyper-scaled clouds on the same contract, and we were able to do that successfully,” Lipkin stated.
