Visibility tools bring hybrid-cloud IT blur into focus
Managing a hybrid cloud environment with applications on-premises and in public cloud is a handful; throw in rapidly evolving development and operations tools and methods, and a pretty confusing maze emerges for information technology personnel to navigate. This is the muddle public-sector organizations and others must navigate as they move to modernize with cloud, DevOps, etc. A comprehensive lens into the total IT environment might help smooth the transition.
Public-sector organizations have a lot of choices to make before migrating to cloud — especially since some of their legacy apps may not be a perfect fit, according to Scott Drossos (pictured, right), president of Infiniti Consulting Group.
“So you have to make a choice — are you going to do some refactoring, rearchitecting before you get it there? Or are you going to get in the cloud now and do it afterwards?” Drossos Asked.

20/20 vision across the stack
Various cloud game plans can lead to wins, but companies need to think ahead about which is right for their workloads. Likewise, once apps are dispersed across a number of homes, organizations need easy visibility into their performance, according to Drossos.
Apps themselves are taking on a dizzying number of forms nowadays. “If you’ve got a developer now that has the ability to write code, put it on any cloud they want, spin up containers, spin down containers, go try out serverless … they’ve got a lot of flexibility to do what they want,” Osborne stated.
Additionally, with hectic DevOps deployment cycles, apps are being deployed multiple times a day. “You have to have visibility into everything you’re doing across the stack to be successful in that,” Osborne said.
New Relic offers this visibility with its digital performance monitoring and management software as-a-service, he concluded.
