CIOs approach generative AI cautiously due to budget constraints, questioning its value and proper implementation. Vendors promote it eagerly, but CIOs struggle to find impactful use cases. Lean AI, using small language models, may be a more practical approach. Tactical deployments with small wins are preferred over grand, strategic implementations. Tangible business benefits from generative AI may take several years to materialize.
