In this interview from the GSA Awards Celebration, Hao Zhong of ScaleFlux joins theCUBE’s John Furrier to discuss the pivotal role of storage in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Zhong shares insights from the "Oscars of the semiconductor industry," highlighting how ScaleFlux is capitalizing on the massive demand for data infrastructure. He breaks down the three pillars of AI infrastructure – compute, interconnect and data storage – noting that while compute and interconnect have seen significant investment, storage is now emerging as the critical next front...Read more

What is the current status and momentum of ScaleFlux in the AI infrastructure industry, particularly regarding data storage?add
>> Hello, I'm John Furrier with theCUBE We are here in San Jose at the Santa Clara Convention Center for the Gala Awards, the GSA awards celebration. Hao is here with ScaleFlux, CUBE alumni. We grab them out of the hallway. Congratulations for being here. All the awards are being up there. You're probably on the list of the next acquisition target, given all the deals going down.
Hao Zhong
>> I don't know about that.
John Furrier
>> We just saw our friends at Celestial AI get bought out by Marvell. Good to see you.
Hao Zhong
>> Good to see you.
John Furrier
>> It's a fun time.
Hao Zhong
>> Yes, yes. Great event. GSA, my favorite event.
John Furrier
>> This is our first time here. What's it like for the folks that haven't been here? Explain what this event is like.
Hao Zhong
>> Oh, this event is mainly the semiconductor community. The company is all gathering together annually, and to recognize the accomplishment and, of course, meeting a lot of brands as we are very busy, and this is great even to see a lot of brands.
John Furrier
>> It's like the Oscars of the semiconductor industry.
Hao Zhong
>> Yes, it is.
John Furrier
>> It's not Hollywood. They're real people building real things.
Hao Zhong
>> It is. It is.
John Furrier
>> People might not know, ScaleFlux is one of the most successful companies coming out of the woodwork, growing superfast. You guys just stick to your knitting, stick to your focus. The world, you saw the vision. Give us an update on the momentum. What's it like right now for you? The world certainly demand is high. Give us an update.
Hao Zhong
>> Yeah, it's fantastic. I remember earlier this year at the GTC, Jensen mentioned that there are three key pillars for the AI infra. That's compute, interconnect, and the data storage. Everyone knows that the compute was hard and then the interconnect. Now, finally, people are paying a lot of attention on the storage and you probably have seen the industry is going nuts on this.
John Furrier
>> Storage, always creeping around the corner. The storage is so important. You need to have the storage. Because now with AI, there's more context. If you look at all the agents, they need more storage too.
Hao Zhong
>> Yes.
John Furrier
>> I mean, vector embeds, one of the most popular things in AI right now. It's just you take text, words. It doesn't take much to store a word, but you add embeddings onto it, more storage.
Hao Zhong
>> Yes.
John Furrier
>> Everything's about storage.
Hao Zhong
>> Yeah. That's amazing. The AI, we need more storage for the content and also more performance. Otherwise, the AI data pipeline and the GPU servers will have bottleneck on the data storage.
John Furrier
>> Talk about why storage is important now more than ever. For people that don't know a lot of the architecture, where's it going to have a value? Where do you see the value?
Hao Zhong
>> Okay. So remember, for any servers, whether it's a GPU and a CPU servers, this is about a system. You have a processor, you have a DRAM and also SSDs. So everything has to grow in parallel. In the past few years, the processor side, GPU, TPU, has grown tremendously and then followed by interconnect. However, the storage has been quite under-invested and there's a gap. The other thing is the data generation, but the AI now is even much faster than ever. So both of those reasons combined together, that make this data storage even more difficult to meet the demand.
John Furrier
>> Yeah. And data feeds the GPUs and XPUs. Before AI, data growth was at a 30% CAGR. Now, it's even higher because, again, AI is contextual.
Hao Zhong
>> Correct.
John Furrier
>> The models are coming in.
Hao Zhong
>> Yes.
John Furrier
>> The agents are going to be using it. How is that impacting your business, all this growth?
Hao Zhong
>> I would say this is the best time I have ever seen in data storage industry. So people need more capacity, more performance, and try to catch up that is not easy. That keep us very, very busy, which is a great problem to have.
John Furrier
>> That's good for business, for you.
Hao Zhong
>> Yes.
John Furrier
>> Well, it's good to be on the right side of history. We've been following your company now for over a year. Congratulations on all your success.
Hao Zhong
>> Thank you.
John Furrier
>> And again, enjoy the celebration.
Hao Zhong
>> Thank you.
John Furrier
>> Thanks for coming on. Okay. I'm John Furrier with theCUBE. Again, we talk to these leaders all the time, but now as the world grows, they're turning into massively large businesses. This is just the way it is in the semiconductor world. We're doing our part to bring that to you. We're here at the Gala Awards. This is the GSA Awards Celebration. I'm John Furrier with theCUBE. Thanks for watching.
