Bob Laliberte
>> Hello, I'm Bob Laliberte, principal analyst of theCUBEResearch, and welcome to our Boston Studio for a special CUBE conversation, part of our exclusive CUBE coverage of AWS's annual conference, re:Invent. I'm joined by Jasmina Desai, chief architect and associate director for R&D, clinical diagnostics group, at Bio-Rad, and Sid Cerivastatin, the senior VP for healthcare and life sciences at Persistent Systems. Welcome, Jasmina and Sid.
Jasmina Desai
>> I'm glad to be here as well, thank you.>> Thank you for having us.
Bob Laliberte
>> Yeah, absolutely. So I think we've got a great discussion lined up today, all about the strategic collaboration between Persistent Systems and Bio-Rad Laboratories. We're going to explore how their partnership is driving innovation, particularly through the development of advanced applications, leveraging AWS infrastructure, Amazon Q, and generative AI. So let's start by discussing one of the key aspects of your collaboration, developing the clinical diagnostic applications. That usually comes with a lot of unique challenges, especially when it comes to data privacy, regulatory compliance, scalability. Jasmina, I was wondering if you could share how Bio-Rad approached these challenges while working on AWS.
Jasmina Desai
>> Indeed. So the life sciences industry is governed by strict regulations, including HIPAA and GDPR, making data privacy and compliance absolutely critical. At the onset of our project, the top priority was to build a secure, scalable environment, capable of managing sensitive customer data without sacrificing performance. AWS, that's our trusted partner, served as the foundation for our cloud infrastructure, while Persistent's expertise and strong partnership were instrumental in developing solutions tailored to our global customer requirements. Their team collaborated with us closely from the design phase to ensure all necessary security protocols were integrated seamlessly, enabling us to scale efficiently without compromising security. Whether it is for protecting our customers for data privacy who trust us with their data, using HIPAA-eligible services for compliance, or ensuring data integrity, this partnership with AWS and Persistent has truly been impactful.
Bob Laliberte
>> Excellent. And Sid, would you like to provide any additional details of the partnership from Persistent's perspective?>> Yes. So our role was to tailor AWS solutions to meet Bio-Rad's specific needs. We leveraged our domain expertise in life sciences and worked closely with Bio-Rad's team to address compliance and data privacy needs, while ensuring that the applications are scalable and efficient. The collaboration allowed us to co-develop a solution that could handle the scale of Bio-Rad's global operations seamlessly.
Bob Laliberte
>> Excellent, that sounds like a great partnership. Let's dive into the technology side, if we could. Jasmina, can you talk about how Bio-Rad is leveraging Amazon Q and generative AI in the clinical diagnostics business group?
Jasmina Desai
>> Sure. So these technologies have truly been transformative for us. Leveraging cutting-edge AWS infrastructure and services, along with the integration of Amazon Q and generative AI, we have greatly enhanced our R&D capabilities. Generative AI, for instance, chatbots that assist customers in various ways, such as answering product-related questions or providing step-by-step instructions for using features. Looking ahead, it has the potential to support researchers in data analysis, enabling faster data-driven decision-making. This innovation's streamlining numerous processes, allowing our stakeholders to focus their efforts on more complex and strategic tasks.
Bob Laliberte
>> Yeah, that's a great use of technology. And Sid, I'm wondering, from Persistent's perspective, how do you see these technologies fitting into the broader digital transformation goals for clients like Bio-Rad?>> So generative AI and tools like Amazon Q are key enablers for innovation. By embedding these technologies, we have been able to automate complex tasks, reduce manual efforts, and accelerate decision-making. This is just the beginning. We see even greater potential as we continue to integrate more advanced AI capabilities. Persistent also has its AI orchestrator solution, SASVA, that can force-multiply the impact of AI tools like Amazon Q.
Bob Laliberte
>> Got it, cool. And I wonder if you could then maybe elaborate a little bit more on Persistent Systems' specific contributions to Bio-Rad's digital transformation journey.>> So we have been partners with Bio-Rad in ideation, design, and development of business solutions for many years now. Persistent comes with deep domain expertise in life sciences. For projects like the one that we are discussing now, we took a consultative approach, ensuring that the solution aligns with Bio-Rad's strategic objectives. We have also leveraged our expertise in legacy product sustenance for Bio-Rad and to support their businesses. With Bio-Rad, we have been able to showcase the potential of our capabilities in cloud, AI, and digital transformation. We believe that this collaboration is a blueprint for how technology can be leveraged to solve complex challenges in life sciences.
Jasmina Desai
>> And I would like to emphasize that Persistent's ability to understand our business requirements and deliver customized solutions has been invaluable. Their extensive expertise in cloud and application development seamlessly complemented our internal capabilities. Together, we have enhanced and built cloud applications using secure software development practices, while adhering to the AWS Well-Architected framework and industry best practices. Whether it started as a simple feature or evolved into a complex feature-rich solution, this collaboration has consistently driven success. For instance, we have developed several innovative quality control data management solutions, and continue to deliver added value to our customers, through our strong partnership with Persistent, and, of course, with AWS.
Bob Laliberte
>> Yeah, it sounds like you're both really benefiting from this relationship and getting a lot out of it. So given all the success that you've had to date, what's next for this partnership? Jasmina, maybe you could share any insights you have into future plans, especially around your partnership with Persistent.
Jasmina Desai
>> We are thrilled about the opportunities that lie ahead. Our SaaS platform is designed to optimize quality control processes, empowering customers to make informed decisions and prioritize patient safety with confidence. As we move forward, we are excited to continue our journey in collaboration with Persistent. AWS remains our primary platform, and we are leveraging its services, particularly generative AI offerings, like AWS Bedrock, Amazon Q, and others, to deliver innovative customer-focused solutions.>> Jasmina articulated quite well, our primary focus is to always deliver technology-enabled business transformation solutions for Bio-Rad. We want to build scalable, intelligent solutions that continue to deliver value to Bio-Rad and to Bio-Rad's mission of advancing scientific discovery and improving healthcare. We would like to continue to partner with Bio-Rad's clinical diagnostics and life sciences businesses to deliver market-relevant solutions.
